Welcome to The Catholic University of America’s Disability Support Services.  We hope that the information you find on our website is helpful to you.  At any time, you may schedule a time to meet with one of our staff. You will be required to meet with someone for an intake appointment prior to receiving services.  We strongly encourage you to make your disability known prior to your arrival on campus.

If you have any questions or need clarification, please do not hesitate to contact us. We look forward to working with you.

What we do

The Office of Disability Support Services coordinates assistance for all students with disabilities in order to promote equal access to all CUA programs and services.

Who we assist

DSS seeks to assist students with disabilities in making the necessary arrangements to facilitate full participation in academic and extracurricular pursuits.

The Catholic University of America complies with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, and applicable local, state and federal statutes regarding nondiscrimination against persons with disabilities.

A student with a disability is defined as one who has a physical or mental impairment which substantially limits one or more of the student's major life activities, has a record of such impairment or is regarded as having the impairment.

CUA admits qualified students regardless of disability and welcomes disabled students into every area of life within the College. Students are encouraged to contact Disability Support Services any time prior to application or after acceptance to the University.

Purpose of DSS

  • Determine and provide reasonable accommodations and services for all students with documented disabilities
  • Ensure all policies and procedures allow for accessibility
  • Assist in maintaining physical compliance to all university facilities

Postsecondary education is a stepping stone that provides

  • an opportunity for students to experience their strengths and weaknesses in a new environment,
  • an environment that gives students equal access to all opportunities on campus,
  • an opportunity for students to develop the skills needed to go out independently into the world

Office Hours: Monday-Friday 9-5 on all normal business days.  DSS follows the normal operating schedule of the university, including snow days and observed holidays.
